Trip to the North Pole!!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

The minute I learned about the Polar Express, it was over…. we HAD to do it!! Talk about a magical experience, I’m 100% hooked. The trip was amazing! So amazing that I have dubbed it a Christmas tradition for the young Miller family :)

And I SO love my husband for making these fab videos to document our epic adventures. I love you babe!!

Enjoy :)

One Year Old!!!

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Another sweetheart! Have I ever said I love my job :)

Little M. was sooo cute and she had the best outfits ever! One year olds are probably the most unpredictable age to photograph and I really LOVE the challenge! We made serious fools of ourselves (awesome job mom, by the way!), and came out with these incredible shots because of it. It’s so amazing to capture their little emerging personalities! I mean… could she be more adorable, really?!

We even had big brother there for a few shots which was awesome!

This shot… this shot makes me speechless. I love it so much! I giggle ever time I see it, and I don’t think there could ever be anything more precious. I love kids!

Thinking about getting one with “Bad-A Photographer” embroidered on it for myself. What do you think, lol ;)

Tina and Bobby

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

I’m normally not the jealous type, but I have fallen a tinsy bit jealous of Tina and Bobby. See… Tina and Bobby eloped. Normally I wouldn’t be phased by that, but these two eloped in Australia!! Now how romantic and insanely adventurous is that? And it didn’t help that they played their wedding video at their reception!

I’m fighting the jealousy here and it’s a loosing battle. Now I’m determined to renew my own vows in Australia… my attempt at eloping in style :)

After their idyllic and picturesque voyage, they returned home to Las Vegas and celebrated with their closest friends and family. The party was held in the backyard of Tina’s parents and everything was gorgeous! They had fabulous food and entertainment. Enjoy a few of my favs from their celebration:

During the past year I’ve had several opportunities to shoot fashion for the women’s clothing boutique Eccoci, so I thought I’d share a few shots. The company is based in New York City and they have several stores in the United States and Canada. You can also check out their site  for online shopping :)

Trash tagging… hahaha

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Ten days ago was a typical trash day like any other, or so I thought. That afternoon I mosied on down the street to retrieve our personal trash can. To my horror, it was nowhere to be found.

But why?! My trash can has always been there for me. I have toddlers and pull-ups galore! We seriously need that thing!

Two more trash days passed and our can… still missing. But I’m stubborn. Even after being forced to carry plastic bags to the street corner, I refused to purchase a new can. I was holding out for MY can… I mean we have history. Truth is I just didn’t want to shell out another $100 bucks for a stupid can ;)

But today… today was a memorable day. Today I learned that we have new neighbors. Today I found my beloved trash can, albeit with a hideous makeover!

Turns out our lovely and quite brilliant new neighbors stole our trash can. And no, I’m not kidding! They must have figured if they layed low for awhile and tagged the dirty thing to death, we’d never realize it was ours? I do have to give them kudos… they really went all out.

The best part of this scenario is the fact that my husband is a cop, and he really loves his job. How can someone be that unlucky and stupid all at once, right!? First you steal a trash can… not just any can, but your neighbor’s can who ironically turns out to be a cop. Then you’re actually dumb enough to TAG it with your address and a few ‘krew’ signs! It’s just hysterical… totally reminds me of that ’stupid criminals’ show, lol.

Fortunately it looks like everything will return to normal in the Miller household and tomorrow we should see the return of our trusty can. My husband did have a fabulous time confronting our poor neighbors, although I believe he was dissapointed how smoothly it went. In the end he offered to let them off the hook if they returned our can, cleaned up of course. They sheepishly accepted his offer :)

The Wedding: Craig and Raquel

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Since my girls are so young, this is the closest I’ll come to understanding a mother’s heart when a daughter marries for a long, long time. Raquael is like my oldest daughter. She lived with Vance and I during high school. I was there the day she graduated. She jokes that her sister Rachael and I are like her other moms.

I am so happy for Raquel and Craig. Their wedding was beautiful and you could see how happy they were to become husband and wife.

I was able to take many more pictures of them outside the Oakland Temple, where they were married. However, I am still glad that we did another photoshoot before the wedding. They have so many great shots to enjoy.

Their reception was at a friend of the families. The place looked beautiful - they did a great job decorating. And, of course, the family’s trampoline was in the yard. Raquel came up to me and requested a few jumping pictures.

I shot them jumping into the sun, because the background was cleaner. The other directions had people, decor, etc. But shooting into the sun brings its own challenges - especially when your subjects are moving up and down.

The first time, this seemed to be the only picture to turn out. When I looked through these batch of photos a second time, I realized some of them could be very artsy with a little editing. I’ll be sure to post how they turn out later.

It was perfect. After the reception, Raquel’s three older siblings (Vance, Rachael and Mike) gave the couple a Vegas Honeymoon for a gift. I’ve been waiting and waiting to hear how she liked Vegas. We gave her tickets to the Phantom of the Opera and a few other fun shows.

Raquel… CALL ME!

All about the Redwoods, part 2

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Thanks for the input on the Redwood photographs! I loved reading your thoughts. Now here are a few of the “behind the scenes” images from our big adventure.

As I mentioned earlier, we traveled to the Bay Area for my sister-in-laws wedding, then headed north to camp in the redwoods and then again at Bend, Oregon. All together - it was nine days of camping fun.

We swam in rivers, played hard, hiked, sang around the campfire and ate lots of marshmallows. One of my favorite activities was playing pretend in the woods with our girls. Once we were away from the campsite, we were in fairy land.

Vance is the mastermind of pretend - it makes me feel like I’m a kid again. We would hide behind trees and look for fairies. Every piece of bark or rock became a piece of buried treasure. Kelsey filled her pockets with pebbles, plants and bark.

We also had a blast singing around the camp fire. We sang a few traditional songs ‘Going on a Bear Hunt” being a favorite. But then we had a few Miller family originals. Vance would make up a tune and Kelsey would make up lyrics. Usually, they were about our trip.

Sitting around the campfire, we went through a lot of marshmallows. Vance made the girls cook their own food. Even Whitney, our 2 year old, had kitchen duty. They were both such troopers. I can’t wait for our next camping adventure. (59cmqetgry)

All about the Redwoods, part 1

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Here are us Millers, having an awesome time camping in California. Have I mentioned I love the outdoors? If I could spend every day exploring mountains/caves/forests etc, I would be in heaven. It so happens I married someone who feels the same way. Our family had quite the adventure - traveling to the bay area for Raquel’s wedding, camping in Humbolt (northern California), and then more camping in Bend, Oregon. My girls are such troopers! (more on that later).

First, I want to share a few pictures. I spent about an hour wandering through the Redwoods - just me and my camera. It was just before sunset, so I followed the light.  Most of these were shot on a tripod with long exposures.

I felt so small wandering around those giants by myself. After a little bit, it did get a little creepy - but still fun. I’d love to go back and spend longer than one hour.

My next post will share a few more photos and tell all about our camping adventures with our two little girls. Also, expect to see these photos discussed on my tips and tricks blog.

By the way - which Redwoods photograph is your favorite? I’d love to know.

Janet’s head shot session and a bonus!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Janet Ault is a Reiki Master. Even before I learned that, it was obvious that she has a loving and calming spirit. She is a pleasure to work with and be around.

Janet came to Red Rock Photography Studios for a head shot session. At the time, she had her grandson visiting for the summer. When they met me at our location, Janet asked if she could also have her grandson and his mother photographed. So not only did we take the fun shots above, but we were able to photograph her sweet grandson with his mom.

What a wonderful family! So glad that I was able to photoraph them. I also used a few of Janet’s photos to share tips on photographing a headshot session on my Photography Tips and Tricks blog, if you’d like to check them out.

Weekly Photo Challenge - “Fourth of July”

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Fun, fun, fun! I love the Fourth of July!!

So I ended up working the night of the Fourth of July, but it was still great fun to celebrate with a bunch of strangers while I photographed them partying like rock stars, lol. I celebrated with my little fam all day Friday by swimming, sunbathing and eating just about the entire day. Doesn’t get much better than that ;)

Well, my shot is pretty much mediocre… my master plan fell through yet again, lol.  BUT check out the other two ladies’ images. Nice shots :)

Baby B. is growing up!

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

This past couple weeks have been too chaotic for my liking, but I have somehow survived and just might even recover :)

So I faced the ultimate photographer’s doom… my desktop completely failed on me and had to be taken to the shop - BOOO!! Needless to say, I’ve neglected the sweet internet because of it. Drat! But I’m almost out of the woods, and starting to function once again… yay!

Alrighty, I hear you… stop my whining. Now back to the fun stuff!

So a couple weeks ago I was able to photograph my super stinkin’ cute nephew again!! He’s such a cutie patootie… I just want to squeeze him!! Yeah, yeah, I’m a proud aunt… but who wouldn’t be, right?!?!?!

Here’s the sneak peak. Enjoy, and try not to be jealous ;)

San Diego beaches and wedding photography :)

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Seriously, is there anywhere more romantic than the beach? I had the most incredible time photographing these two… they’re simply adorable. But, you’ll never believe how adventurous they are. Well Sonja specifically :) These pics were taken the day BEFORE their wedding… Sonja, you’re a brave woman wearing that gorgeous dress out there prior to your BIG day. But I’m so grateful you did… and I’m even more grateful that we saved that dress from the ocean tide. We had one insanely close call, but the groom saved the day!!
