Here are us Millers, having an awesome time camping in California. Have I mentioned I love the outdoors? If I could spend every day exploring mountains/caves/forests etc, I would be in heaven. It so happens I married someone who feels the same way. Our family had quite the adventure – traveling to the bay area for Raquel’s wedding, camping in Humbolt (northern California), and then more camping in Bend, Oregon. My girls are such troopers! (more on that later).

First, I want to share a few pictures. I spent about an hour wandering through the Redwoods – just me and my camera. It was just before sunset, so I followed the light. Most of these were shot on a tripod with long exposures.

I felt so small wandering around those giants by myself. After a little bit, it did get a little creepy – but still fun. I’d love to go back and spend longer than one hour.
My next post will share a few more photos and tell all about our camping adventures with our two little girls. Also, expect to see these photos discussed on my tips and tricks blog.
By the way – which Redwoods photograph is your favorite? I’d love to know.

Photography lighting 101 | Las Vegas Photographer - [...] Redwoods in Northern California. Taken with a long exposure. [...]
Leisel - The second and third to the last are my favorites. They are amazing shots. I love the lighting coming from the side on the third from the last and I love the angle looking up from the second to the last! Beautiful work!!
Jessica B - Nice work! I agree with Leisel. Those two are my faves as well.
Brian - I like the one focused on the two big trees.
Alex - I like the third and forth pictures. it really enhances the beauty of the woods.
Patty Walser - Mindy, I think the 4th one down is an amazing shot. It has some interesting lighting effects. I really like the 1st one too with Vance and the girls – pretty cute. They are all really good however.

Vance - I like the first color picture of the redwood pictures due to its blend of natural colors and the sky. I love the blur of the leaves. The sun spots and beams of light add to the effect but do not take away from the brightness of the sky above the trees. This picture really is a good example of how leaves mute the light when looking straight up through the giant trees.
